Dear Pastor,
I am Rachel Tarvin, missionary to the field of Perú. I am excited to be
in South America serving in what is known as the Sacred Valley of the
Incas. I have been on the field since 2008. My busy ministry involves
helping with a local church plant, specifically children's ministries;
teaching and counseling seminary students; guest services; and
coordinating lots of other details. It has been a blessing to work among
a growing body of believers in Urubamba.
I am sent through the authority of my local church, Antioch Bible
Baptist Church of Gladstone, Missouri pastored by Bob Baier. I was
appointed to career missionary service by Baptist Mid-Missions in 2006.
God blessed deputation greatly. I was able to finish in about a year.
After 4 months of language school, I arrived in Perú in June 2008. I am
enjoying working at the church and seminary. I have begun learning
Quechua, but am still looking for a class in the town where I live.
Quechua literacy work combines evangelism and discipleship through
literacy work under the leadership of the local Perúvian churches. The
goal is to teach as many poor, rural women as possible by training them
to teach others also. By evangelizing and discipling the women, their
testimony may one day have an impact even on unsaved husbands. My
deepest passion is to be used of God in the greatest way to expand the
work of His Kingdom across the world. This is my goal for the rest of my
life and ministry. I want to make a difference in the lives of people
and across the world for Jesus Christ.
Pastor, I have just returned to Perú after a short furlough. I was
able to visit most of my supporting chruches and many individuals who
finanacial support me. My next furlough is roughly scheduled for
2016.
If you have other questions, or
would like to be added on my prayer letter mailing list, please e-mail me at
